Off-duty officer injured, police cruiser badly damaged in Miami-Dade hit-and-run

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities arrested the driver who struck a Miami-Dade police vehicle on Wednesday night, injuring the officer inside.

He was identified Thursday as 32-year-old Yasmany Jaime Ulloa.

The Miami-Dade police cruiser was left with heavy damage to the front end.

It happened in the area of Southwest 74th Street and Coral Way.

The officer, who police said was off-duty at the time, was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center with non-life-threatening injuries, Miami-Dade Police Detective Andre Martin told Local 10 News’ Cody Weddle.

“Thankfully this officer will be able to go home to his family today,” Martin said.

Police said Ulloa continued down 74th Street before abandoning his car and taking off on foot through a nearby park.

Officers were later able to track him down at his home and take him into custody, authorities said.

Ulloa faces a charge of leaving the scene of a crash.
