FHP: Man killed in crash on Turnpike off-ramp near Hard Rock Stadium

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A rollover crash on a Florida’s Turnpike ramp near Hard Rock Stadium left a man dead Thursday afternoon, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash, on the southbound offramp to Northwest 199th Street also known as Dan Marino Boulevard in Miami Gardens, happened at around 1:45 p.m., according to FHP dispatch data.

Images from Sky 10 showed an overturned car that jumped a guardrail and a tarp that covered a man’s body lying on the pavement after landing on the stadium’s F-1 racetrack.

FHP officials said the man was behind the wheel of a gray Dodge coupe and was exiting the Turnpike when he lost control and crashed into a concrete barrier wall.

Authorities said the car went over the wall and collided with the palm trees while overturning down an embankment.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and died from his injuries, according to FHP. His identity has not been released.

No other deaths or injuries were reported.

All lanes have since been open on the turnpike, but drivers should expect delays in the area.
