Police said just before 1 p.m. on October 6, 2023, the victim was doing mechanical work on an automobile near the 1100 block of Palm Avenue at which time Marrero-Fortes was traveling in a 2021 gray Lexus SUV, spotted the victim and parked his vehicle nearby.

After exiting his vehicle, Marrero-Fortes approached the victim on foot while holding a sharp object in his hand and then slashed the victim multiple times as the victim attempted to defend himself, according to the report.

Police said the victim was found on the ground bleeding as Marrero-Fortes fled the scene.

A witness was at the scene and observed the incident, according to detectives.

The victim was transported to Jackson Memorial Hospitalā€™s Ryder Trauma Center and needed emergency surgery after suffering multiple lacerations on his stomach, leg, left ear, and chest, as well as a puncture wound to the left side of his torso, the report stated.

Detectives said the victim and witness were interviewed and corroborated statements following the incident. The victim also identified Marrero-Fortes as his alleged attacker through a single photograph, according to the report.

Police said Marrero-Fortes and the victim have known each other for a few years and Marrero-Fortes was previously arrested last March for aggravated battery on the victim in a separate incident.

Investigators said Marrero-Fortes turned himself into the Hialeah Police Department Headquarters without incident on Monday.

Marrero-Fortes did not provide a statement to detectives after turning himself in, according to the report.

A motive for the alleged stabbing remains unknown at this time.

As of Tuesday, he is being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
