MIAMI SPRINGS, Fla. – An unwelcome visitor to a Miami Springs backyard wasn’t able to break into a home, but police said he did manage to pilfer some beer, getting swigs in before his arrest.
The homeowner was inside watching it all unfold — and recording.
According to an Instagram post by the Miami Springs Police Department, the crime happened Monday at a home in the 600 block of Curtiss Parkway.
They said the burglar, John Koonce, entered the fenced-in backyard, drank a beer from the homeowner’s outdoor refrigerator, then tried opening every door of the house in a failed attempt to get inside.
According to police, a beer wouldn’t be the only thing the 26-year-old would leave the property with. Officers were there to meet him and fitted him with a pair of handcuffs as he left the backyard, they said.
A judge found probable cause Tuesday to charge Koonce with one count of burglary of an occupied dwelling.
According to jail records, he was being held in Miami-Dade’s Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on a $7,500 bond as of Tuesday afternoon.
