MIAMI – The 47th annual MLK Day parade in Miami was held Monday on what would have been Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 95th birthday.
The parade started at Northwest 54th Street and 10th Avenue and continued eight miles to 32nd Avenue.
The parade route followed the same route King took during his frequent engagements in Miami during the Civil Rights Movement.
“There are more than 100 entries that include corporate floats; federal, state, and local officials; police and military units; historic pioneers; high school and college marching bands; dance and drill teams; equestrians; classic and exotic cars; motorcycles; historic MD transit bus; civic, church, community, and veteran groups; and trade unions,” according to a press release on the event.
Local 10′s Betty Davis participated in the parade this year, riding in a convertible as she followed the route taken by the late civil rights icon.
