FHP: 1 dead following crash on Don Shula Expressway in southwest Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities responded to reports of a rollover crash Friday that left a male driver dead in southwest Miami-Dade.

A spokesperson with the Florida Highway Patrol said crews responded to the crash where a mangled black car was heavily damaged in the southbound lanes of the Don Shula Expressway and Killian Parkway.

A gray Chevy Corvette was traveling south on the Don Shula Expressway on the exit ramp to eastbound Killian Drive when it lost control and collided with a palm tree, according to FHP.

The driver, who FHP said was the sole occupant at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle and landed on a grassy embankment. Police said the male driver died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

Sky 10 flew over the scene around 12:45 p.m. where the car was found next to a tree that was knocked down beside it.

Authorities have not released any information on the victim involved in the crash and the cause of it is unknown at this time.

The ramp to eastbound Killian Drive from southbound State Road 874 is currently closed as they continue their investigation, FHP said.
