MIRAMAR, Fla. – Miramar police are investigating a drive-by shooting that left a male teenager in critical condition late Thursday night.
Authorities said officers responded to the shooting just before 11 p.m. near the 7800 block of Dilido Boulevard.
Police said upon their arrival, they found a 16-year-old boy lying in the front yard of a home in the area suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
The victim was transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in critical condition, according to investigators.
Police have not provided any information on the victim’s identity.
Local 10 News reporter Roy Ramos spoke with the brother of the victim who said that the teen had been hit by gunfire not far from their home.
He described the incident as a “messed up situation” and said that his family and police are “trying to get to the bottom of it.”
A woman who lives nearby and asked not to be identified told Local 10 News that she immediately dropped down on her floor and hid after hearing several shots fired.
“I was sleeping,” she said. “First, I got up and I heard the shots, so I just hid.”
A motive for the shooting remains unclear as detectives continue their investigation.
