A Hollywood police report states that just before 9 p.m. on Aug. 25, Vassello was driving a Nissan Sentra at 57 mph in a 35 mph zone in the 2300 block of North Federal Highway when he struck the pedestrian.

Police said they were able to determine Vasselloā€™s speed through surveillance video from a nearby business.

ā€œThe crash would have not occurred had Vassello operated his vehicle at or near the speed limit and exercised due caution,ā€ Hollywood police Officer Alejandro Falcon wrote in the report.

Authorities booked Vassello into the Broward Main Jail on a felony charge of reckless driving causing serious bodily injury.

He was being held on a $1,000 bond as of Thursday morning.
