WESTON, Fla. – Video released on Wednesday shows when the driver of a black Porsche recently collided with a Florida Highway Patrol trooper on Interstate 75 in Broward County.
The crash was at about 6:30 a.m., on Jan. 2 along I-75 north, near Indian Trace. Ricardo Jimenez was speeding in the sports utility vehicle when he collided with the back of the patrol car, according to FHP.
Jimenez, 49, of Weston, ran away, but a Broward Sheriff’s Office deputy in a helicopter found him hiding in the bushes, near the intersection of Indian Trace and Lake Boulevard, according to an FHP report.
A BSO deputy dog bit Jimenez’s arm, and deputies arrested him, according to a police report. Weston fire rescue personnel took Jimenez and the FHP trooper to the Cleveland Clinic, according to an FHP report.
BSO deputies told FHP troopers that Jimenez had been involved in a “similar incident” before and after he fled he “tried to swim across a canal,” according to the FHP report.
Prosecutors filed a case against him on Jan. 3. Jimenez was released on Jan. 5 on a $15,150 bond.
He is facing charges of, resisting an officer, leaving a vehicle unattended after an accident, leaving the scene of a crash involving no serious injury, leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, and failing to stop and remain at the scene of an accident involving property damage.
