LAUDERDALE LAKES, Fla. – Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office released surveillance video Wednesday of a strong-arm robbery that occurred at a Carvel ice cream shop in Lauderdale Lakes last Saturday.
BSO deputies said they responded to a robbery call just after 5 p.m. near the 3600 block of West Commercial Boulevard.
Upon their arrival, an employee told investigators they saw an “unknown heavyset” man wearing all black, who entered the store while carrying a blue bag and demanded money from the cash register, according to BSO.
Detectives said the employee stated she initially refused to comply but then opened the register out of fear after the man became verbally aggressive.
Video surveillance of the crime shows the robber reaching over the counter and removing hundreds of dollars from the cash register before exiting the store, according to BSO.
Deputies said the man fled the fast food restaurant in a white vehicle. They are unsure of the vehicle’s make and model at this time.
Authorities have not said exactly how much money was taken during the incident.
Detectives believe the same man may have committed a similar crime in Davie.
Anyone with information about the man’s identity or location is asked to contact BSO Robbery Det. Armando Enrique at 954-321-4233 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
