Police still working to identify victim found in submerged vehicle near Sawgrass Mills Mall

SUNRISE, Fla. – Police are still working to identify a victim whose body was found over the weekend submerged in a retention pond near the Sawgrass Mills Mall, authorities confirmed to Local 10 Monday.

According to police, the vehicle was discovered Saturday morning by Sunshine State Sonar, a nonprofit volunteer search team that uses sonar technology to locate vehicles, boats or missing persons.

Sunshine State Sonar confirmed that they were working a missing person’s case in Sunrise when they located the early 1980s vehicle that had human remains inside.

It’s unclear for how long the body and vehicle were submerged.
