MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A man was fatally shot Sunday night after the Miami Dolphins hosted the Buffalo Bills at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, authorities confirmed to Local 10 News Monday.
According to Miami Gardens police, the shooting occurred around 11:55 p.m. in the 19400 block of Northwest 27th Avenue.
“Yeah, I heard the shots. You heard ‘boom, boom, boom, boom’ -- you heard four in a row, for sure,” witness Jae Jackson said.
Miami Gardens police units arrived in the area to find Miami-Dade police officers assigned to the Dolphins game detail already at the scene, administering chest compressions to the victim.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel then arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
According to authorities, the victim and a group of his friends were walking through traffic after the game when they got into a verbal argument with the subject.
Police said the subject then got out of their vehicle and fired several shots, striking the victim.
The subject then fled the scene in an unknown direction, authorities said.
“All I could do was talk to him. I felt sorry for him being on the ground by himself,” Jackson said. “I’ve never seen officers do CPR. They were taking turns going back and forth.”
Jackson said he held the victim’s hand as the victim took his last breaths.
“I tried to talk to him,” Jackson said. “I was holding his hand. His girlfriend came over, told him he was strong. At that moment he actually lifted his arm, so there was, like, hope.”
According to a source with knowledge of the investigation, the victim is from Canada, and his friends tried stepping in to pull the subject out of his car during the altercation, but that person pulled out a gun and shot the victim.
“Even for beating on someone’s car, that’s not something they should lose their life for at all,” Jackson said.
Anyone with further information is asked to call the Miami Gardens Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
