Teacher leaves party, turns up dead along Turnpike in Broward

Detectives investigate Christmas Eve death

WEST PARK, Fla. – The recent death of the 34-year-old mother of a 10-year-old girl who worked as a teacher at the Discovery Elementary School in Sunrise remained a mystery on Friday.

Shakira “Kira” Mozie, who was also a tutor and a cheerleading coach, left a party on Dec. 24, in West Park, but she never made it back home to Tamarac.

Mozie turned up dead shortly after on the Florida Turnpike. It’s unclear who was driving her white Lexus sports utility vehicle.

Mozie’s father, Sheldon Mozie, said he was heartbroken when he got the message about her death. The nature of the crime was haunting him.

“Why would somebody leave my daughter on the side of the road like a dog?”

Mozie’s stepmother, Crystal Mozie, said she was “a God-fearing woman” and her family needed answers.

Detectives were still investigating the case. They were asking anyone with information about the case to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
