Investigators reveal cause of blaze at Dolphins WR Tyreek Hill’s mansion in Southwest Ranches

‘There’s a fire!’ a voice is heard yelling in a 911 call

SOUTHWEST RANCHES, Fla. – The cause of the massive inferno at Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill’s mansion on Wednesday has been revealed.

A spokesperson for the Davie Fire Department told Local 10 News Thursday that investigators believe a child was playing with a lighter inside a bedroom at Hill’s Southwest Ranches home and started the blaze.

It’s unclear if the child is related to Hill or how exactly he or she was able to ignite the flames because officials identified the incident as “accidental” and said that no further investigations are taking place.

Authorities said everyone inside of the home was able to evacuate safely and no injuries were reported due to the fire.

Hill was at Dolphins practice when the fire first broke out and, according to the team, left early to handle the issue.

Sky 10 was above the scene shortly before 2:30 p.m. Wednesday as firefighters were spotted on the roof of the mansion, located on Berkshire Court in the gated Landmark Ranch Estates development, as smoke was billowing from one side of the house.

Records show the home was purchased for $6.9 million in the summer of 2022.

Footage from Sky 10 showed Hill speaking with relatives along with his agent Drew Rosenhaus outside his home around 3 p.m. At one point, he placed his hands together as if in prayer as he looked toward the sky.

Hill’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, also came to the scene. He spoke to local media outlets late Wednesday afternoon.

“Thankfully, the fire was contented to a limited area of the home,” Rosenhaus said. “It’s very difficult for anybody to have your home catch on fire, but Tyreek is handling it with as much poise as you could hope.”

Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa also spoke to reporters just moments after Hill left practice.

“It’s difficult to know what Tyreek is going through right now,” said Tagovailoa. “I think the main thing is his family is safe, his loved ones are good and he’s good as well.”

Sky 10 flew over the home Thursday morning where parts of the roof of the mansion looked charred and heavy damage was done to the exterior of the home.

Hill missed practice Thursday due to what the Dolphins are calling ankle/ personal reasons, but he is not expected to miss Miami’s game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night.

“He appreciates everyone’s support that has reached out to him,” said Rosenhaus. “He is going to be fine physically (and) mentally. Tyreek is going to be okay.”
