Fire causes partial roof collapse at abandoned building in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A fire at an abandoned building caused a partial roof collapse in Fort Lauderdale Thursday afternoon.

The fire was reported around 3 p.m. at 1050 Northwest Sixth Street.

According to Battalion Chief Garrett Pingol, a spokesperson with Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue, the building appeared to be abandoned and was boarded up before the fire occurred.

Pingol said officials believe the building has been abandoned for quite some time and had previous interior damage before the fire was reported.

No injuries have been reported at this time.

Authorities said the fire was put out quickly and the cause of it is under investigation.
