According to his arrest report, the shooting occurred around 2 a.m. Friday in the 1700 block of Northwest 55th Street.

Miami police said officers and City of Miami Fire Rescue personnel responded to the scene after receiving a ShotSpotter alert and found the victim suffering from a single gunshot wound to the right knee.

The victim was transported to the emergency room at Jackson Memorial Hospital for treatment.

According to the report, the victim told police he loaned James $200 a week and a half ago and James picked him up early Friday to pay him back.

But the victim claimed things took a turn after James drove them to a place on 55th Street where he got into an argument with another male in the rear of a building.

Police said the victim tried to intervene and James became upset with him, shooting the victim in the leg.

James then fled the scene in his black Infiniti sedan, authorities said.

According to the report, the victim claimed that he has known James since they were kids, but said he never really spoke to him until the day James asked to borrow money from him.

James was taken into custody the next day.

According to his arrest report, he admitted to being at the scene of the crime, but denied shooting the victim.

Police said he claimed the gun was knocked down from where it was and fell, ultimately discharging by itself.

As of Tuesday, James was being held without bond at the Miami-Dade County Pre-Trial Detention Center.
