FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Since 2015, the anchor drop has taken place on New Year’s Eve in downtown Fort Lauderdale.
On Sunday, preparations were underway in the heart of downtown Fort Lauderdale as the count down to 2024 was on,
A staple of the Fort Lauderdale New Year’s Eve celebration, the anchor will be hoisted above with over 20,000 LED light bulbs.
“We want to make sure everyone knows this is tradition is part of Fort Lauderdale,” said Mayor Dean Trantalis.
The event officially kicked off at 4:30 p.m. with food on the grille and music pumping through the speakers.
Five to ten thousand people are expected to take to the street, each looking forward to what the New Year has to offer.
There will also be a kids countdown to the New Year that starts 6:55 p.m. while the main anchor drop is slated to take place at 11:55 p.m.
