MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Two men were killed after shooting each other in a Miami Gardens office tower Friday afternoon.
It happened at around 2:10 p.m. at the Bank of America Miami Office Center, located at 18350 NW Second Ave., near Miami Gardens Drive. The building contains a bank branch and multiple offices.
Two men were in the building’s elevator and, when the elevator doors opened on the fifth floor, one of the men opened fire on the other and the other shot back, Officer Diana Delgado, a Miami Gardens Police Department spokesperson, said.
A witness, who asked not the be identified, reported hearing multiple gunshots.
“I heard boom, boom, boom,” she said. I opened the door and saw gun smoke powder on the floor.”
Nicolas Caraballo, a Bank of America customer, told Local 10 News “I’m glad I wasn’t there. I’ve never seen something like that happen.”
Medics took both men — one by ambulance and the other by helicopter — to a local trauma center, according to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue.
The pair were taken to the hospital in critical condition Friday afternoon and later died, Delgado told Local 10 News at around 5 p.m. Friday.
She said authorities had not determined a motive, but said there was no threat to the community.
“Two males were traveling in the elevator. As the elevator doors opened, one male began shooting at the other male. The male then returned fire.”
While detectives say no one was arrested, a Local 10 News crew witnessed two other men also in handcuffs along Northwest 183rd Street.
“He got shot in the head and I watched him get killed,” said another witness.
Police have not confirmed if their detainments were related to the shooting.
Detectives have not identified the men involved in the incident and a motive for the shooting has not been determined at this time.
