The shooting was at about 3:40 p.m., during a busy Saturday ahead of Christmas at the Paddock Mall, where the list of anchor department stores includes a Macy’s.

Shell, a convicted felon, took off running before police officers could catch him. There is a $5,000 reward for information leading to a fugitive’s arrest.

The Florida Department of Corrections released Shell in 2021 after he was convicted of retail theft in Marion County, according to state records. His record also shows a cocaine possession case in 2005.

Detectives asked anyone with information about the case to call 911, or 352-656-6137, or Marion County Crime Stoppers at 352-368-7867.
