BSO: Pompano Beach shooting leaves 2 dead, 1 in custody

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – Two male victims died and one person was taken into custody following a shooting on Monday night in Pompano Beach, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded shortly after 7:20 p.m., to a convenience store in the area of Northwest Fourth Street and 27 Avenue, west of South Powerline Road in regard to a large crowd of people and cars blocking roadways after authorities said there was an ongoing street party nearby.

Upon arrival, deputies said they found Quaavon Ellis and Brandon McNair, who were both suffering from gunshot wounds.

Paramedics with Pompano Beach Fire Rescue transported both victims to a nearby hospital where they were both pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigation reveals that an altercation occurred between the shooter and the two individuals and shots were fired inside the store, according to BSO spokesperson Carey Codd.

Codd said deputies detained the shooter at the scene for questioning and, at this time, detectives do not believe any other shooters were involved in the incident.

Upon the completion of their investigation, homicide detectives will present the case to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office for review, according to Codd.

Deputies have not identified the suspect involved in the shooting nor have they provided the age of the victims due to Marcy’s Law.

Detectives were asking anyone with information about the case to call BSO Homicide Unit Detective Kristina Luna at 954-321-4210 or Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
