Fort Lauderdale church damaged by fire over holiday weekend

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Flames damaged a Baptist church in Fort Lauderdale leading up to the Christmas holiday.

Mount Bethel Baptist Church, located at 901 NW 11th Ave., suffered significant interior damage when the fire erupted in the sanctuary at around 7 p.m. Saturday, according to Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.

The fire re-ignited on Christmas Eve.

Officials said no one was hurt and firefighters were able to contain a majority of the fire damage to the church’s sanctuary, though smoke damaged the rest of the building.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the blaze.
