Holiday travel picking up as airports, highways see higher volume

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Tis’ the season for holiday travel.

It’s no surprise that airports are busy as eager travelers are ready to make some magic memories with their loved ones.

At Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, travelers were showing up early, trying to avoid the hustle and bustle of holiday travel.

More than 2 million people are expected to pass through the airport this holiday season, with the highest volume coming this week.

Miami International Airport has already set a new record for highest single day passenger traffic, when on Sunday the facility saw nearly 171,000 travelers.

MIA is anticipating a total of 2.8 million throughout the holiday season.

Across the country its a similar story. Wednesday and Thursday TSA screened roughly five million travelers.

That number is expected to rise moving forward for what’s expected to be a record breaking holiday travel period all the way around.

The roadways already pretty busy too.

AAA forecasts more than 100 million people will hit the roads for the holidays.
