BSO: Motorcyclist killed in Deerfield Beach crash

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – Authorities are investigating a crash in Deerfield Beach that left a motorcyclist dead Tuesday night.

Broward Sheriff’s Office detectives said their preliminary investigation revealed at approximately 9 p.m., 41-year-old Lech Podowski was driving in a 2007 Mercedes S550 sedan in the westbound lanes of Sample Road and South Dixie Highway.

At the same time, a man on a 2004 Kawasaki EX-250F motorcycle was in the eastbound lanes of the intersection preparing to make a left turn northbound onto Dixie Highway when was stuck by the Mercedes, according to BSO spokesperson Gerdy St. Louis.

Authorities said paramedics transported the motorcyclist, whose identity wasn’t released, to Broward Health North Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just after 9:30 p.m.

The circumstances surrounding the fatal crash remain under investigation, according to BSO.
