SWEETWATER, Fla. – Police arrested a southwest Miami-Dade man Monday on a felony charge after accusing him of giving a girl drugs and raping her in a bathroom at the Dolphin Mall in Sweetwater.
According to police, the incident happened at around 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 10 at the mall, located at 11401 NW 12th St.
An arrest report states that day, the 11-year-old told her mother that she was “raped by a stranger at the mall,” and said the suspect, later identified as David Rivero, “gave her a ‘marijuana gummy,’ took her into a family bathroom, pulled her pants down and took her virginity.”
The victim was later given an examination at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital and told the same thing to a doctor, police said.
The arrest report doesn’t make clear how authorities identified Rivero, but said surveillance video shows the girl and the 33-year-old “entering the family restroom and exiting.”
Authorities redacted an alleged confession from the report.
Rivero, who lives less than a mile away from Kendale Lakes Elementary School, was arrested on a charge of sexual battery of a minor by an adult.
He was being held without bond in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center as of Tuesday morning.
