PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. – Police identified a teenager Thursday who they said shot a store clerk during an attempted robbery in Pembroke Pines.
It happened Tuesday at a convenience store off University Drive near Sheridan Street.
Police said the clerk was shot multiple times while trying to run away during an attempted robbery.
Detectives said 13-year-old Joshua Munoz was taken into custody and is now facing a charge of attempted homicide, illegal possession of a firearm by a minor and armed robbery.
Munoz’s arrest report states that the victim fled the area to nearby apartments where a good Samaritan assisted in stopping the bleeding.
The victim sustained five gunshot wounds from the shooting but is expected to make a full recovery, authorities said.
Police said Munoz fled on a bicycle but did not get away with any merchandise and was found with Glock handgun.
The victim provided a sworn statement indicating that he wishes to press charges against the teen following the incident, the report stated.
Police said Munoz had a previous warrant out for his arrest for an unrelated armed robbery incident that also occurred in Pembroke Pines.
While in court, Munoz’s parents asked a judge if he could be put on house arrest, but that request was denied, and Munoz was ordered to remain in a juvenile detention center for at least 21 days until his trial begins.
His next hearing before a judge is set for January 2, 2024.
