MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Medics airlifted a man to Jackson South Medical Center following a drive-by shooting at a 7-Eleven in southwest Miami-Dade Monday afternoon, according to police.
The shooting happened just before 4 p.m. at the chain’s store at 13690 SW 268th St. in the unincorporated Princeton area.
Miami-Dade police said they responded to the scene after receiving a ShotSpotter notification.
“According to investigators, the victim was the passenger of a vehicle that was stopped at a gas station,” Detective Alvaro Zabaleta, a Miami-Dade Police Department spokesperson, said in a news release Monday evening. “He exited the gas station after making a purchase and approached the driver of the vehicle. While standing by the driver door, a black 2-door Audi entered the gas station and...unknown subjects began to shoot at the victim.”
Both police and community members said the situation could have been even worse.
“There were a lot of rounds that were fired here,” Zabaleta said. “It’s a miracle that nobody else was hurt.”
Meanwhile, advocate Mark Harris said there “could have been a lot of innocent people that could have got shot here.”
It’s not clear if the shooting was a targeted incident or how many suspects were in the Audi.
Police asked anyone with information to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
