MONROE COUNTY, Fla. – A dangerous police pursuit was caught on dash camera video in Islamorada on Sunday afternoon.
Troopers said they were chasing the driver of a Chevrolet SUV who refused to stop after driving recklessly and on the wrong side of the road.
It was a dangerous scene for runners who were participating in a half-marathon race along U.S. 1, but fortunately no one was hurt.
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office said it used a pursuit termination device to stop the chase.
The SUV lost several tires that apparently went flying in the air with runners nearby, according to witnesses.
When the vehicle eventually crashed into a construction site, the driver was taken into custody, deputies said.
Authorities have yet to identify the suspect, who they said will be taken to jail after being released from the hospital.
