MIAMI – A 41-year-old man was arrested Wednesday, days after his girlfriend was shot in the chest in a parking lot in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood, authorities confirmed.

According to his arrest report, Angel Antonio Arteaga-Abreu, of Kissimmee, and his girlfriend were in a parking lot off Southwest 12th Street and Miami Avenue around 5 a.m. Sunday, around the time many bars and clubs close in the area.

Miami police said Arteaga-Abreu’s girlfriend was shot in the chest following a dispute involving multiple people.

According to the report, two other victims had been at the Corner Club when they got into an argument with several people and were asked to leave by security.

One of the victims told police that he walked to his vehicle, at which time a large group of men surrounded his car and began to kick and punch the vehicle, as well as strike it with beer bottles and bricks.

Police said the victim and his passenger fled the area.

According to the report, after the two victims left, Arteaga-Abreu’s girlfriend was found on the ground, suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

She was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center to be treated for her injuries.

Police said Arteaga-Abreu was transported to the police station to provide a witness statement and he claimed to have not been involved in the attack on the vehicle or know the people who attacked it, but only expressed concerned about who shot his girlfriend.

The girlfriend was interviewed at the hospital Wednesday and identified Arteaga-Abreu in surveillance video as one of the people “punching, kicking and throwing rocks” at the victims’ vehicle before firing a gun while standing behind the vehicle, the arrest report stated.

Police said she appeared to be surprised at the way her boyfriend acted because she said he was not involved in the altercation inside of the club, and believed everything occurred because he was heavily intoxicated.

Although the report states that Arteaga-Abreu fired a gun, it does not explicitly state whether detectives believe he shot his girlfriend or whether they believe someone exchanged gunfire with him.

Police said he did provide a statement to detectives, however his statement was redacted from the publicly released report.

Arteaga-Abreu was arrested on charges of shooting a deadly missile, providing a false sworn statement and criminal mischief.
