OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – Miami-Dade police released surveillance video Wednesday of a hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian in Opa-locka nearly two weeks ago.
According to authorities, the crash occurred just before 8 p.m. Oct. 14 near the intersection of Ali Baba Avenue and Northwest 27th Avenue.
Police said the driver of a 2018 black Toyota Corolla was heading north on Northwest 27th Avenue, approaching Ali Baba Avenue, when they struck a pedestrian who was pushing his bike while crossing the street.
The suspected driver of the Toyota Corolla fled the scene after the crash without trying to help the victim, identified as Donald Graber, 60, or call 911, authorities said.
“Everybody knew him all around Opa-locka,” said Dannis Rodriguez, a friend of the victim. “He didn’t deserve to die like that.”
Police have identified Herald “Penchi” Herrera, 43, as a person of interest in the crash.
Detectives released a photo of Herrera and the suspected vehicle, and said that it may have front-end and windshield damage.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Herrera and/or has information about the hit-and-run is urged to contact Miami-Dade Police Department Traffic Homicide Detective J. Bobadilla at 305-471-2425 or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477
Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers also announced Wednesday that a reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest.
