DORAL, Fla. – It was a very big day for more than two-dozen members of the Miami-Dade Police Department as they officially took the next step in their law enforcement careers.
On Wednesday, the department held its semi-annual promotional ceremony at its headquarters in Doral.
A total of 29 employees were recognized for their hard work and dedication by receiving promotions to several new ranks.
That includes 19 officers who were promoted to the level of sergeant, as well as five sergeants who were promoted to lieutenants.
In addition, the department also promoted a new assistant director, division chief and police major.
Stephanie Daniels, MDPD’s interim director, addressed the group prior to their promotions, outlining the qualities they look for among their ranks.
“Today I want to emphasize the importance of leadership, trust, credibility, accountability, follow through and follow-up as you take on these new responsibilities,” said Daniels.
Wednesday’s promotions come a little more than a year before residents in Miami-Dade will go to the polls to elect the county’s first sheriff in several decades.
Nearly a dozen candidates have already entered the race.
