MIAMI – The Florida Department of Transportation is set to begin work on a nearly $2 million road project in the northern part of Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood.
Starting next week, the state will be upgrading Northwest 36th Street between Seventh and North Miami avenues.

A portion of the work will involve updating pedestrian infrastructure.
That includes “installing pedestrian curb ramps, guardrails, detectable warning surfaces, signage and pavement markings,” fixing damaged sidewalks, installing “high-emphasis crosswalks” and upgrading pedestrian signalizations, according to FDOT.
FDOT officials also plan to replace traffic signals, add traffic detection video equipment and repave and restripe the roadway.
“Construction will be done in stages with temporary lane closures scheduled to avoid special community events and peak hours of traffic. Temporary sidewalk detours will be in place when necessary,” an FDOT news release states. “Access to and from adjacent neighborhoods and businesses will be maintained during construction.”
Work on the $1.9 million project is scheduled to be completed in the spring.
