Miami-Dade high school students set to visit the White House Tuesday

WASHINGTON ā€“ Ten Carol City High School students are taking a historic trip to the White House on Tuesday and will participate in the official State Arrival Ceremony of the Prime Minister of Australia.

Their trip to Washington, D.C. will be a historic one as the students will get the chance to meet President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris and First Lady Jill Biden.

ā€œThis memory is going to insert a page in our book,ā€ said Florida State Senator Shervin Jones.

Local 10 News spoke with Jaylen Chance, a student at Carol City High School, who says the trip is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for the students to get an education outside of the classroom.

ā€œI aspire to be the president when I grow up, so this trip really means a lot to me,ā€ Chance said.

The students, who were selected by teachers for their leadership qualities, are being sponsored by various community groups.

On Tuesday, they will get a chance to represent their community and show that hard work and dedication to academics can lead to great opportunities.

ā€œIt is not how you start, but how you end,ā€ said Sophia Nodarse, a student at CCHS. ā€œSomething I never imagined was being able to go to Washington, D.C. and meet the president.ā€

School leaders told Local 10 News that the all-expenses paid trip seeks to empower students and let them know that the sky is the limit.

ā€œWe are the future,ā€ said Nodarse. ā€œI am the future, and we are the future leaders of America.ā€
