Security beefed up in Wynwood for music fest amid world tensions

MIAMI – The III Points Music Festival is expected to attract 20,000 concertgoers this weekend to Wynwood.

Miami Police with Miami Fire Rescue will be on hand to greet the throngs of people.

The massive event at Mana Wynwood comes at a time of heightened alerts in Miami-Dade County amid world tensions.

Mayor Daniella Levine Cava recently called for elevated levels of security over the escalating conflict in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas.

County security officials are adding layers of surveillance to what the mayor describes as soft targets, such as areas with large crowds.

Miami Police Capt. Freddie Cruz advises everyone that if they “see something, say something . . . a suspicious person, a suspicious package.”

Cruz also advises attendees to come up with a plan of where to meet people they are with if they get separated.

“Each day, we will have 85 firefighter paramedics including inspectors to maintain crowd control and ensure that the stages are safe,” said Lt. Pete Sanchez of Miami Fire Rescue.

With thousands of people expected to Wynwood this weekend and the strong police presence, there’s also a traffic warning.

Police say that the event will continue until 4 a.m. on Friday and Saturday, and advise drivers and others if they have no business in the Wynwood area, to stay away.

Closures in the Wynwood area, all East of I-95, include:

NW 6th Avenue, NW 21st Terrace and NW 26th Street.
