‘A real miracle’: South Florida family learns loved ones rescued after Hamas took them hostage

AVENTURA, Fla. – A South Florida family just found out their loved ones have been rescued after escaping Hamas’ siege in Israel.

They were kidnapped by Hamas, but the Israeli Defense Force was able to get them back.

Melania Benlolo, of Aventura, can only thank a higher power that her nephew David Heiblum and his wife Denise have been rescued.

“It’s a real miracle, a real miracle what is happening, I promise, in the middle of the bomb, in the middle of terrorists that rescued in the worst place in Israel,” Benlolo said. “It’s a real miracle.”

Benlolo said that the pair were living on a kibbutz in southern Israel named Kiffussem. Hamas took over the kibbutz until 12:30 Monday when Melania got this message: “Now is outside the place I am waiting to move with Israeli army to a secure place.”

She said the husband and wife were able to escape the kibbutz and were found hiding, going days without food and water.

“We don’t know” what Hamas did to the pair for those 48 hours, Benlolo said.

“I am Jewish Orthodox. I hope that this happens for our people. I have many — it’s 8 million people that are suffering,” she said.

In South Florida, many are praying those still missing, still suffering and still waiting on word from loved ones.

Benlolo said she hopes for more miracles in the days ahead.
