Person 1,600 miles away calls cops after he sees rape on Key West live cam

Victim had been sexually assaulted earlier and man offered to ‘rescue’ her, then he assaults her

KEY WEST, Fla. – A terrifying, brutal attack at one of the Florida Keys’ most iconic landmarks.

Video shows a man with a woman in a headlock. She keeps resisting, but then he shoves her behind the Southernmost Point marker where prosecutors say he sexually assaults her.

Minutes later, the woman stumbles and runs. He zips up his pants.

But what he didn’t know at the time was that there was a webcam, which was live streaming everything.

A 911 dispatcher, 1,600 miles away in Boston was watching the webcam and called Key West Police.

CALLER: “I’m actually calling from Boston. But, bear with me, this is going to sound crazy. But, I’m at work and I have the, you know, the Southernmost Point cam?”

DISPATCHER: “Yeah.”

CALLER: “I could almost swear that I saw somebody get raped.”

According to the report, witnesses in Key West also called police after seeing a “nude female, crying and screaming.”

Officers met up with the victim at a nearby hotel and later learned that she was reportedly raped earlier in the night off Duval Street.

The man, identified as Kerry Calvin Gasag, claimed he stepped in to “rescue” her and drive her away.

Instead, he drove her to the iconic buoy and terrorized her again. He then returned, investigators said, to tamper with evidence.

“He came back and scooped up her clothes,” said investigators.

Gasag was arrested and nearly two years later, he’s pleaded guilty to all counts. On Thursday, Gasag was sentenced to 10 years in prison with five years probation.

The other suspect was arrested and has a hearing later in October.
