Florida man turns pub-sub stop into $5 million prize after playing Lottery scratch-off game

STUART, Fla. ā€“ A man is $5 million richer after playing the Monopoly Doubler scratch-off game, the Florida Lottery announced Thursday.

According to Lottery officials, Travis Hall, 44, of Port St. Lucie, claimed his prize at the Lotteryā€™s Headquarters in Tallahassee.

He chose to receive his winnings as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $3,994,698.

Lottery officials said Hall purchased his winning ticket from a Publix in Stuart.

Hall told Lottery officials that he stopped at Publix to order a sub and decided to test his luck by purchasing a scratch-off at the store.

ā€œI stopped at Publix to grab a sub and decided to try my luck with a $20 Scratch-Off,ā€ Hall told Lottery officials. ā€œLittle did I know, it would turn into a $5 million win! After waiting days to scratch the ticket, I handed it to my wife -- my hands were trembling from disbelief at what I was seeing.ā€

The business will receive a $10,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.

ā€œThe $20 Monopoly Doubler scratch-off game launched on July 4, 2022, and features more than $493 million in cash prizes, including eight top prizes of $5 million!ā€ the Florida Lottery said in a news release. ā€œThe gameā€™s overall odds of winning are 1-in-3.98.ā€
