Police: Victim ejected from ATV, thrown into barbed-wire fence

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 55-year-old man was arrested Wednesday, a month after police say he intentionally struck an ATV in southwest Miami-Dade, causing the person riding it to fall off and become seriously injured.

According to his arrest report, the incident occurred shortly before 7:30 a.m. July 16 in the area of Southwest 258th Street and 227th Avenue.

Miami-Dade police said the victim told responding officers that he initially got into a verbal argument with 55-year-old William Ray Olson Jr.

He said he then got onto his ATV and began to drive away, but Olson followed him in his vehicle and intentionally struck it, causing the ATV to roll over.

According to the report, the victim was ejected from the ATV and thrown into a barbed-wire fence.

Police said he suffered serious injuries.

Olson fled the scene before officers arrived, however multiple witnesses were able to identify him to officers in a photo lineup, authorities said.

According to the report, Olson provided an admission to detectives after being taken into custody Wednesday, however his statement was redacted from the publicly released report.

Olson was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, but has since been released on bond.

He faces charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury.

Further details about the initial dispute between Olson and the victim were not released by police.
