Broward mother asks public to help find her 16-year-old son’s killer

Detectives search for 2019 Toyota Camry involved in fatal shooting of Hallandale High School

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Myriam Impert’s 16-year-old son Marcus was killed on Thursday night in Broward County, and detectives had yet to make an arrest in the case on Tuesday.

The passenger of a gray 2019 Toyota Camry shot Marcus in the head shortly after 9:30 p.m., just east of Hallandale High School, where he was a student, police said.

Impert said no one else was shot, and homicide detectives needed more leads.

“Marcus wasn’t a bad kid,” Impert said adding she can’t think of anyone who would want to hurt him.

Police officers with the Hallandale Beach Police Department responded to the area of Foster Road and Northwest Eighth Avenue after dispatch received a gunfire locator service alert from ShotSpotter, police said.

Marcus and the shooter were gone. A driver who was trying to take Marcus to the hospital called 911 when he was in the area of Southwest 21 Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, and fire rescue personnel responded, police said.

The grieving mother said finding out that he was dead was shocking since she had expected him to come home after attending his school’s football game against Monarch High School’s team from Coconut Creek.

“I miss him,” she said adding, “Terrible, he wasn’t supposed to go out like that ... That’s my baby! I only enjoyed him for 16 years and that’s not fair.”

Detectives were asking anyone with information about the case to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
