Family alleges Fort Lauderdale nightclub bouncer’s push left man in coma

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – For the past five days, 34-year-old Andrew Palacios is spending his time at Broward Health Medical Center in a medically induced coma after he was attacked outside of Capones nightclub in Fort Lauderdale on Friday.

Local 10 News spoke with relatives Wednesday outside of the hospital who said Palacios was out celebrating his birthday when he was pushed by a bouncer and hit the back of his head on the pavement.

As Palacios remains in the hospital due to his injuries, his family says someone needs to be held accountable for what happened to him.

“It has been a nightmare to not be able to speak with him and to see what happened,” said the victim’s sister Daisy Palacios.

She says her brother went to Capone’s Nightclub, located at 310 SW Second St., but when he never showed up for work, relatives knew something was wrong.

“They were able to track his cellphone and saw that he was in the hospital,” Daisy Palacios said.

Palacios’ family learned through Fort Lauderdale police that Andrew Palacios was involved in an incident with a bouncer at Capone’s, which was captured on surveillance video.

“He was in the doorway of the club and one of the bouncers had pushed him from the video and he immediately falls back and hits his head,” said Daisy Palacios. “When he fell, the pressure was so hard on the back of his head that his brain shifted to the front.”

Local 10 News reached out to Fort Lauderdale police who said they are investigating and reviewing the video.

Local 10 News also requested to speak to the management of Capone’s nightclub but was asked to leave by employees.

Andrew Palacios’ loved ones said has one young daughter and another child on the way and are now asking that the person responsible is brought to justice.

“It does really upset me that nobody is taking fault for the situation that happened,” said Daisy Palacios.

Local 10 News did request the surveillance video from the nightclub, however, Fort Lauderdale police said they are unable to release because of their ongoing investigation.

Authorities confirmed Wednesday that no arrests have been made at this time.
