OPA-LOCKA, Fla. – Authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Friday morning in Opa-locka.
According to Opa-locka police, officers responded to the 1000 block of Caliph Street around 7:30 a.m. after receiving a ShotSpotter alert and found a man who had been shot multiple times inside his SUV.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Local 10 News crew was in the area later in the morning as a blue tarp covered the front driver’s side window of the silver SUV.
Sources told Local 10 News reporter Annaliese Garcia that the victim was 51 years old.
A woman who lives behind the victim’s home told Garcia she heard the shots.
“One after another,” she said in Spanish. “They sounded loud.”
Sources say the victim was shot at 11 times.
Officers from both the Opa-locka Police Department and Miami-Dade Police Department were at the scene.
Opa-locka police confirmed that detectives with MDPD have taken over the investigation.
