Florida man wins $1 million prize playing Mega Millions at Publix

FORT MYERS, Fla. ā€“ A Florida man won $1 million playing the Mega Millions game and claimed his prize this week, Florida Lottery officials confirmed Thursday.

Hugh Hackney, of Fort Myers, purchased his winning ticket from a Publix in his hometown.

According to Lottery officials, Hackneyā€™s ticket from the Jan 24. drawing matched all five of the white ball numbers drawn but did not match the Mega Ball number.

The business will receive a $1,000 bonus commission for selling the winning ticket.

ā€œSince joining Mega Millions in 2013, the game has generated more than $1 billion for education and has awarded more than $1 billion in prizes,ā€ the Florida Lottery said in a statement.

The next Mega Millions drawing will be held Friday, June 30, at 11 p.m. ET, with an estimated $368 million jackpot.
