Join special guest host and Local 10 News reporter Roy Ramos for this family and pet-friendly fundraising event.

The festivities kick off at 7 a.m. and all participants are invited to wear holiday gear and join the movement to “krush” poverty and homelessness in South Florida.

The race is named after The Salvation Army’s iconic Red Kettles, which are staffed during the holiday season to collect funds for families in need.

The funds raised provide essential resources for impoverished families to get out of poverty and become financially stable.

Every year, The Salvation Army serves over 50,000 Broward County residents, and more than 70% of its funding comes directly from individuals, groups and businesses.

“It’s never too early to get in the spirit of Christmas – to give back to those in need - and The Salvation Army of Broward County’s Kettle Krush 5K is one the of the simplest and healthiest ways to support our community well-being,” said Major Stephen Long, area commander for The Salvation Army of Broward County. “Now is a great time to register in advance and make good on those New Year’s resolutions.”

Registration fees range from $10 for kids and $30 for adults.  Special discounts are offered to students and seniors aged 60 and above.  Park entry and parking fees are waived for all race participants.

Awards will also be given to runners in “Top 3″ categories, age groups and for the wackiest holiday attire for both themselves and their pets.

All participants will receive a free, commemorative t-shirt.  The 5K will also feature a kids’ zone with art, crafts and a bounce house.
