Storm floods areas of southern Miami-Dade

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – There was flooding after a storm on Friday afternoon in the area of southern Miami-Dade County’s South Miami Heights area.

A parking lot had ankle-deep water in the area of Quail Roost Drive and 115 Street after a weather system just stalled causing quite a mess during rush hour.

“The whole parking lot was flooding already; it was pretty crazy actually,” said Juan Carlos Gomez, of the Siete Maravillas food truck.

The water knocked over potted plants and trash cans.

“At some point, I was like, ‘Is the car going to start floating or something?’”

In a nearby neighborhood, the water was encroaching on lawns.

“I walked out and said, ‘What happened here?’ Yeni Ramos said in Spanish.

Drains stopped up or overwhelmed. Carlos Limonto was among the neighbors who said it was the worst flooding they had seen.

“You know with the weather and with the rain, anything is possible,” Limonto said in Spanish.

Some were worried about the water reaching the inside of their homes or damaging their cars.

Niurka Carballo, who was shopping when the parking lot flooded, said all of this happened while it had rained for about an hour and 45 minutes.
