MIRAMAR, Fla. – Spirit Airlines is looking to hire more than 4,000 employees in 2023 and will be holding a pilot hiring event in Miramar next week.

The company has added new destinations and planes to its routes and according to a news release on Friday, the airline will be filling positions for pilots, flight attendants, maintenance technicians and customer support personnel.

In 2022, JetBlue Airways made a deal with Spirit Airlines for $3.8 billion that could increase competition at the top end of the U.S. airline industry while eliminating the largest discount airline for travelers on a tight budget.

Several states have joined the U.S. Justice Department to stop the merger. They claim the deal would reduce competition and drive up air fares for consumers.

The merger would make JetBlue and Spirit the fifth-largest U.S. carrier, with about 9% of the market.
