HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Surveillance video helped Hollywood police arrest a man they accuse of attacking elderly residents and snatching their necklaces.
His getaway ride? A scooter.
Victims in three separate cases gave descriptions of the blue scooter, police said, and officers were able to arrest Jose Sans Farias.
“This person clearly had a motive,” Hollywood Police Department spokesperson Deanna Bettineschi said. “He knew what he was looking for.”
Police said the violent thefts happened in the Hollywood Lakes area.
In one case, on Feb. 24, police said a victim was sitting next to the water, trying to enjoy the view and the next moment, he’s grabbed and his gold chain is snatched.
“He took these necklaces and pawned them at pawn shops,” Bettineschi said.
Police are asking residents who think they may have been targeted by Farias to give them a call.
“Any time something like this happens, we want our residents to report it,” Bettineschi said.
