NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – Police are investigating after a driver was caught on camera backing into a business in North Miami and injuring a woman and two girls.
The crash happened just after 7 p.m. Monday on the east side of NE 124th Street and Sixth Avenue.
Local 10 News obtained video surveillance that shows a woman and two girls walking along the street when a white SUV went barreling into them.
Video shows one of the girls being pinned against the wall after the crash.
Surveillance cameras captured a man in a red shirt who was seen climbing over the wreckage and opening the passenger side door before putting the car in drive and then moving it forward.
North Miami police said the girls involved in the crash were four and eight years old.
Authorities said one of the young girls was airlifted and two victims were taken by ground to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where all three are now recovering from their injuries. At last check, police said they are all in stable condition.
Local 10 News spoke with one witness who heard the crash as she was working at a nearby barber shop.
“I just heard a loud noise (and) I came to check it out and saw a car back that was backed into the sidewalk,” said Rebecca Mesidor. “I do hope they are OK. I mean, who would’ve thought something like that would happen?”
Witnesses told Local 10 News that the man in the red shirt was the driver of the vehicle.
Investigators are still trying to determine why the vehicle was left in gear.
Authorities confirmed that the victims involved in the crash are in stable condition and are expected to survive their injuries.
Police have not said if the driver will face any charges.
