Man shot in road rage incident speaks from hospital bed

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Through tears, Robert Gonez shares his story. He was shot twice in the neck during a road rage incident in Miami Gardens.

He says after he was shot and covered in blood, no one stopped to help him.

“I had to take off my shirt. People kept passing me by until a Miami Gardens officer stopped,” Gonez says.

The incident happened on Jan. 25 as Gonez was heading home from work when he got into an argument with a man on a dirt bike.

“It seemed he didn’t like how close we were to each other,” Gonez recalls.

He remembers the dirt-bike rider traveling with a toddler. “He still had on diapers,” Gonez remembers.

The man left the scene, dropped off the toddler, and returned to find Gonez.

“He pulled out a gun and shot at me twice.”

Gonez is the father of an 8-year-old and a 10-year-old and he feels grateful to be alive.

The shooter has not been identified. Anyone with information is urged to call Miami-Dade Crimestoppers at (305) 471-8477.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with medical expenses.
