MIAMI – A Miami man is facing a second-degree murder charge after police said he killed his mother Tuesday evening in the city’s The Roads neighborhood.

According to a police report, a woman told police that the victim’s daughter called her that day to inform her that she couldn’t reach her mother or her brother, 54-year-old John Calhoun Tucker III, over the phone.

The woman then went to Tucker’s home in the 200 block of Southwest 21st Road, knocked several times, then, having received no answer, called the victim’s daughter to tell her that both Tucker’s vehicle and his mother’s vehicle were parked at the home.

She then entered the unlocked door to find the Tucker’s mother lying on the floor, police said. Police wrote the victim was “unresponsive” and “cold to the touch,” prompting the woman to perform CPR and call 911.

Miami Fire Rescue crews responded to the home just before 7 p.m. and arrived to find Tucker’s mother unresponsive and bleeding from the ear. They later pronounced her dead.

Officers with the Miami Police Department arrived after fire crews and began investigating, according to the report, and heard a noise coming from outside the home, saw a man, later identified as Tucker, and detained him.

Police wrote that Tucker told officers that “he was possessed by demons from earlier that morning” and that his mother “began praying on him” before the murder.

The report states that he also told officers that wrote a note that he left near his mother’s body.

Officers also found a .40 caliber Ruger pistol near Tucker, they wrote.

The report states that Tucker confessed to killing his mother, who was not identified in the report.

He was being held without bond at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center.
