MIAMI – Miami-Dade County started to close drawbridges over the Miami River at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in preparation for Subtropical Storm Nicole.
The first bridge to be locked down will be the Tamiami Canal Bridge, the second will be the 27th Avenue Bridge and the closures will continue eastward to the mouth of the Miami River.

County officials announced on Monday that drawbridges over the Intracoastal Waterway will be closed sequentially starting from the southernmost to the northernmost bridge and re-open in the opposite sequence.
County officials also asked boaters to “find safe harbor” since the bridges will remain closed for the duration of the storm’s severe weather.
The U.S. Coast Guard warned boaters on channel 60 that it was time to seek shelter to avoid hazardous conditions at sea in the Florida Straits and the Caribbean.
The National Hurricane Center warned individual waves may be more than twice the significant wave height in the Caribbean.
