Miami man accused of attempted murder after ramming car into Orlando-area home, deputies say

Nisan Ortega, 46 (Orange County Sheriff's Office)

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. – A Miami man was arrested early Monday after ramming his vehicle into an Orange County home, endangering the seven people inside, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they arrived at a home near 1164 Lambing Lane after receiving reports about a burglary happening there, Local 10 News partner WKMG News 6 in Orlando reports.

Upon arrival, deputies found the front entrance had been severely damaged, and a black 2013 Ford Explorer with damage to its front end was parked in the yard, an arrest affidavit shows.

Approaching the home, deputies found 46-year-old Nisan Ortega, who was drunk and rolling around on the floor inside the home, the affidavit states. Deputies said Ortega was later handcuffed and sent to the hospital.

Deputies said they then spoke with Ingrid Alas — Ortega’s ex-wife — who told them that Ortega had shown up around 2 a.m. demanding to be let inside, but she refused.

Alas said Ortega had left about one year ago due to his violent tendencies, the affidavit shows.

Detectives believe Ortega then became upset and backed up his car about 97 feet across the street before accelerating into the home, which could have killed Alas or any of the others in the house at that time.

According to the sheriff’s office, all of those inside the house were able to get out safely and wait along the street for deputies to show up.

“I was scared,” Evelyn Urrea, Alas’ niece, said. “Me and my sister was in the room. When we hear the car getting inside, we run away.”

Alas told News 6 that the family is not looking for a new house right now, but they’re rather working to repair their current home.

While Ortega is now in jail, Alas said that she’s fearful he could do it again.

Ortega faces charges of aggravated assault domestic violence, burglary of an occupied dwelling and seven counts of attempted murder. He is being held on $62,000 bond.
